S'no Time Like the Lake Trek

Hello! My name is Joshua Jones. I am in the first year of the Forge Program and I am loving it! I have been given a chance to reminisce about the Lake Trek which happened in February of 2018. It started with us waking up in the wee hours of the morning. We were treated to a delicious carb-filled breakfast, courtesy of some of the amazing community members here at Camp. We hit the ice at 7:00 am. I spent three days pulling a sled with one other person until we stopped in the evenings at around 4:30ish (I had not brought anything with to tell time) when we set up camp.

Those days and nights were hard, but I knew I had the strength to do it. It pushed our limits, but I knew I had Christ with me to help me through. A quote from my grandmother, “If God brought you to it, He’ll bring you through it.”

The most memorable moment I had was waking up just before sunrise in the middle of the lake, after a very cloudy day. The sun’s rays began breaking through the frozen plain, across this field of decimation which was void of life. The sun was a very welcome sight. It brought the promise of life and I knew I was closer to achieving my goal.

This was a once in a lifetime experience and I won’t be forgetting it anytime soon. I feel like I’ve grown in every way through this trial. I am ready to see, in the rest of the year, and in the next, how I am going to grow some more.
